ECPP Had a Busy Summer and Fall!
The collective has been so busy, collectively and individually, that I don’t even know where to start! Buckle in…
Most of our members performed at Write Women Book Fest, which Patti emceed all day.
We have members with newly-released and forthcoming books.
“Mount Fuji, 36 Sonnets,” is available for pre-order at https://fallentreepress.com/shop/
We’ve got members being nominated for awards!
Zorina’s Harley Quinn origin screenplay was nominated in not one, but TWO categories at the Birmingham Film Festival! That’s Birmingham, England, folks!
Kari received a Pushcart Prize nomination for her poem Dream Catcher, and her poem The List was a finalist for the Darron L. Write Award from Line of Advance.
Many of our members have had poetry published in the past quarter, including–but certainly not limited to: Patti had several poems published in the anthology Writing The Land: Foodways and Social Justice, edited by Lis McLoughin, PhD; Patrice’s poem “Soul Searching” appeared in The Sailor’s Review; Zorina’s “Batman & Karen” appeared in Limp Wrist; and Kari had additional poetry published by Yellow Arrow and accepted by Blue Unicorn. Kari was also recently appointed Co-Editor of MWA’s literary journal, Pen-in-Hand, where our members’ poetry has been popping up for years, and Patti was selected to write about the land at the Howard County Conservancy for the 2024 publication of Writing The Land series.
Patti was busy as the poet-in-residence for Anne Arundel Food Bank. Cliff recently read a harmonica poem in the Poets Speak Back to Hunger international reading hosted by Hiram Larew’s Poetry X Hunger initiative, and Diane’s artwork is featured on the cover of Poetry X Hunger’s book.
We’re out there teaching, too… Some of our members taught at a Poetry Lab for the Montpelier Arts Center, and ECPP is on the books to do so again 2023! Patti participated in a “Celebration of Writing” conversation. Other workshops taught by our members included “Turning Old Prose into Fresh Poetry,” which Kari taught through Armed Services Art Partnership, and Zorina’s “First Draft” classes through Writingclassradio.com. Zorina also organized a writers’ retreat in the Florida Keys.
Angela, Zorina, and Kari all presented at the Maryland Writers’ Conference in October. Kari also hosted the conference’s first (to-be-annual!) open mic.
Kari and Angela both continue to serve on the Board of MWA in various capacities. Meanwhile, Patti joined the Board of Yellow Arrow Publishing!
Of course, Patti is still hosting open mic at the Baltimore County Arts Guild; they concluded 2022 with a wonderful evening of poetry and spoken word with poets from the city of Baltimore and the surrounding suburbs.
And in visual and musical arts…
Cliff (who so beautifully pairs harmonica with poetry) rehearsed on harmonica with Roger Bradbury’s “Dir and the Howlers” musical theater production players in August; read and played in the Connecticut-based Guild Poetry Society reading with The Write Blend poetry group in September; played harmonica with the Voices of Woodlawn poetry group Arts & Humanities presentation in October; and in November sat in on chromatic harmonica on the Gershwin tune Summertime with a local band at a private dance group party at a Maryland country club!
Jay, who recently moved to Charlotte, Vermont, is not only writing but sculpting!
Most of our poets have continued to write ekphrastic poetry. In November, Kari, Zorina, and Patti wrote for an event at Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, which was hosted partnering the Delaplaine with the Frederick chapter of Maryland Writers’ Association
Shwew! So much getting our Arts on! We recently had a one-day retreat, where we discussed the past year and planned the upcoming year–which will be just as exciting! Stay tuned!
